Austin high schoolers raising money to make iPad invention reality

AUSTIN ? If you?ve ever experienced arm fatigue from watching a movie or reading on your iPad, you?re in luck. A group of high school students has solved your problem with their invention ? the GiraffeStand.

Advaith Anand and Scott Davidson are co-founders of GiraffeLabs, a group formed out of the High School Startup program. According to their website, High School Startup is a program where young people learn the fundamentals of startups. They work closely with mentors to build and launch their own products.

Anand and Davidson attended the hands-on program this past summer and came away with a hands-free device for iPad users.

They said they ?realized there was a common problem experienced by most iPad users: iPads are not easy or comfortable to use in bed.?While using our iPads laying down, we experienced arm fatigue, and often resorted to uncomfortable positions.?

GiraffeLabs explains the GiraffeStand as ?a?movable?iPad accessory that attaches to your existing headboard or bed stand. It allows you to read books, watch videos, and surf the web without experiencing the arm fatigue and discomfort that comes with holding up your iPad in bed.?

Anand and Davidson gave KVUE.com online correspondent Rebekah Hood a close-up look at a GiraffeStand and explained their teams? plans for the future of the product. Click the video player above to learn more.

GifaffeLabs is taking donations to reach their goal of producing 50 GiraffeStands. You can learn more about the project and donate until Dec. 13 here.
