Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance | Maharaja Cars, Mercer, Fiat ...

Pebble Beach, CA (Aug19, 2012) ? To cool morning temperatures and early morning dew, the world?s rarest and most beautiful automobiles are driven onto the eighteenth fairway at Pebble Beach Golf Links? located on the Monterey Peninsula. Local resident Jody Bunn, walking her Mom?s dog Lily, said it was an electric moment every year in August when the Concours d?Elegance showcases museum quality automobiles, and at this years? 62nd Concours there were 220 cars from 33 states, and 15 countries.

The Pebble Beach Concours d?Elegance? was presented for the first time in 1950. Cars competing, by invitation only, are judged on originality, authenticity, design, styling and elegance. The Concours is also a charitable event raising an astounding $1,077,220 this year. Jay Leno, host of The Tonight Show and automobile enthusiast, donated his 2012 Fiat 500 Prima Edizione. The car, auctioned by Pebble Beach Auction presented by Gooding & Co., sold for $385,000. Jay encouraged additional donations totaling $212,000 to benefit The Fisher House Foundation, a charitable organization. The Fisher House Foundation provides a place for families of military veterans to stay when the military member is receiving medical attention at a VA medical center in the USA or Germany.

Concept cars showcased at the Concours included vehicles from Aston Martin, Bentley Motors, BMW, Bugatti, Fisker Automotive, Hennessey, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lincoln, Maserati, McLaren Automotive, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, and SRT. The most exciting was presented by Infiniti, the Infiniti EMERG-E Concept. Expected to hit the markets in 2013, The 402-horsepower, mid-engined, twin electric motor-powered sports car is capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds ? and from zero to 130 mph in a single, seamless 30 second burst. ?It is elegant yet dynamic and has graceful power,? explained Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shir Nakamura. Infiniti & Hearst Magazines hosted events for the media, automotive enthusiasts, and VIPs including Linda and Albert Mehrabian, Lorelei Gable, Gallery Director with Carmel Fine Arts, and Linda Almini, Publisher of ?Lifestyle Resources, The Magazine for Silicon Valley.? Food and wine moments were prepared by VeeV?, Morning Glory Confections, Chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli, Compartes? Jonathan Grahm, Chef Marcus Samuelsson, The Cheese Store ? and Sommelier Andrea Robinson.

MidAmerica Auctions presented Motorcycle MarketPlace and online Auction, highlighting the showroom with two motorcycles owned by the icon and motorcycle aficionado Steve McQueen. On display but not offered for sale, the world?s fastest motorcycle, The Triumph Gyronaut X-1 owned by Steve Tremulis, made its first public appearance in 42 years. More than 100 World-Class rare antique motorcycles were presented.
More than twenty-five classes of automobiles competed for awards along with awards for Most Elegant, the Alec Ulmann Trophy, Ansel Adams Award, Art Center College of Design Award, Briggs Cunningham Trophy, Classic Car Club of America Trophy, The Chairman?s Trophy, and many more.

Best of Show was won by a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo owned by Paul and Judy Andrews of White Settlement, Texas. Jacques Saoutchik made seven avant-garde Torpedo bodies for the Mercedes-Benz 680S chassis. During the awards ceremony, Paul Andrews said ?There?s not a bad line on this car. It was the sports car, the high performance car of its era, and then Saoutchik gave it style and grace. It has power and it has beauty?. To be eligible to win Best of Show a car must first win its Class. Other nominees for Best of Show included a 1935 Duesenberg J Gurney-Nutting Speedster owned by the William Lyon Family of Newport Beach, California; a 1931 Duesenberg J Derham Tourster owned by Joseph and Margie Cassini III, of West Orange, New Jersey; and a 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Figoni Coup? owned by David and Adele Cohen of West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Other Pebble Beach Automotive Events included The Concorso Italiano, The Quail ? A Motorsports Gathering, Pebble Beach RetroAuto, Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS) Exhibition, and the Pebble Beach Tour d?Elegance Presented by Rolex.
