Steven Spielberg Aiming for 2015 with Tintin 2

The Adventures of Tintin 2 in 2015

While Steven Spielberg?s The Adventures of Tintin wasn?t?a major box office success here in the states (it only made $77 million), the worldwide take ($373 million) was far more impressive, thanks to brand recognition overseas. And though the motion-capture film was not an incredibly faithful adaptation of Herg??s beloved comic strip, it was considered by some to be the old school Spielberg action-adventure that Indiana Jones 4 should?ve been.

The Adventures of Tintin 2 is slated to be directed by Peter Jackson, who?s currently working on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and?The Hobbit: There and Back Again (2014). The recent delay of the latter film left people wondering whether or not Jackson would be able to work on?Tintin 2 later this year, as he?d previously planned. Now, according to Steven Spielberg, he (?hopefully?) will.

Courtesy of The Times of India, Spielberg said:

?Peter Jackson is directing the next one, I?m producing. We have a script and we?re going to start performance capture probably at the end of this year??Don?t hold me to it, but we?re hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we?re making, we can?t share that now, but we?re combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Herg?.?

When specifically asked about whether or not ?The Blue Lotus? would be used as source material, Spielberg indicated that that particular story would likely be used for?Tintin 3, the finale of the proposed trilogy.

Initially, word on the street was that?Tintin 2 would be based on Herg??s ?The Seven Crystal Balls? and ?Prisoners of the Sun,? but screenwriter Anthony Horowitz indicated that the plans had changed and?Tintin 3 would be a ?Crystal Balls/Prisoners? hybrid instead. Either plans have changed again or Tintin 3 is now going to be a ?Crystal Balls/Prisoners/Lotus? hybrid.

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin (Review)

And if that is?the case ? well, that still leaves the source material for?Tintin 2 a mystery.

It?ll be interesting to see if Peter Jackson utilizes a pseudo-Spielbergian style for Tintin 2 or if the sequel will be more reminiscent of his CGI-heavy action films King Kong and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Those films, of course, employed a style similar to Spielberg?s, as well, to varying degrees of success (both films are not without their detractors), but they?re obviously Peter Jackson films first and foremost.

Will there be an attempt to make the two films gel, stylistically-speaking? Or will their unique attributes be what makes them interesting?

What do you think, Screen Ranters? Are you interested in seeing a sequel to?Tintin, or was the first film not enough to your liking? Let us know in the comments.

The Adventures of Tintin 2?might begin production later this year and?might hit theaters in 2015, if all goes well.
