Make More Money With These Great Internet Marketing Tips! | Cop ...

Internet marketing can complement or replace other marketing methods such as TV ads or billboards. If you own a business and are looking for additional ways to market your products, then continue on and learn about Internet marketing.

If customers spend above a certain amount, you should offer them additional discounts to maximize basket size. One example is to give customers 20% off orders above $300. Incentives like this will ensure customer loyalty and keep them coming back.

A great way to make a sale is to show your customers content that demonstrates your product?s effectiveness, like a video of the product in action. This will arm them with more information about what you want them to spend their money on. This tells them that you are just supplying information; the choice of whether to buy or not is entirely up to them.

Use searches for images as a way to improve your Internet marketing. A well-chosen picture file can boost the traffic to your page. As individuals browse around for what they?re looking for, they might just come across your business. Once they have been to your site and are familiar with your brand, they are more apt to visit again in the future.

You will improve your chances of getting sales if you provide several different ways for people to pay. Although it seems fine to just offer the credit card payment option, it is much better to also offer options like bank accounts and systems of online payment, such as Paypal.

Consider doing your own email marketing. It is simple to use auto responders, send bulk emails and build contact lists once your know what you?re doing. At the end of the day, the hands-on experience you?ll pick up is truly invaluable. What you learn today will help you indefinitely.

Hold events and promotions to gain more traffic. Announce special sales on e-books, for example. The people that flock to your site for their free ebook will likely take a look at anything else you are selling. More often than not, these people will leave with more than just the e-book you put on sale.

Find out what sort of content people in your niche want to read, and give it to them. When you have identified your target audience, producing attractive content that will keep them coming back to your site will be easier.

You need to make your site stand out from the competition. It is important that your website is different from others, if you want more traffic. You can do this very simply by boasting a unique service or product you offer, and explaining how it will benefit your customer base.

To sum things up, Internet marketing can be a valuable business tool. You can use it to advertise your products at a much less cost than traditional means such as through print and television. Keep the tips you just read in mind when you develop your Internet marketing strategy.

EEOC Releases Strategic Enforcement Plan | McNees Wallace ...

[author: Jodi Frankel]

This post was contributed by Kelley E. Kaufman, Esq., a Member in McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC's Labor and Employment Law Group.?A version of this?post?appeared in an Employer Alert published by McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC's Labor and Employment Group in October 2012. The Employer Alert can be accessed here.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC" or the "Agency") recently released a draft of its Strategic Enforcement Plan for Fiscal Years 2012 through 2016.? The Agency has requested public comment on the Plan, which describes its strategy for targeted enforcement and the integration of administrative and legal enforcement activities.? These efforts that are meant to help the Agency meet its responsibilities in the face of increasing demand and limited resources.

Most notably for employers, the EEOC's Plan outlines the nationwide priorities for its enforcement efforts in private, state and local government, and federal sectors.? These priorities include:

  • Eliminating systemic barriers in recruitment and hiring, which includes targeting not only class-based intentional hiring discrimination, but also facially-neutral hiring practices that have an adverse impact on certain protected groups (e.g., race, age, gender).? Those topics of particular interest to the EEOC under this initiative will include pre-employment testing, background screening, date of birth screenings in Internet applications.
  • Protecting immigrant, migrant and other vulnerable workers by targeting practices such as disparate pay, job segregation, harassment and trafficking, as well as policies that may include discriminatory language.
  • Targeting retaliation, as well as policies and practices that are designed to discourage or prohibit the exercise of rights under the anti-discrimination laws.? Retaliation claims represent the largest category of EEOC charges filed.? The Plan indicates that this initiative will, in part, also target over-broad waivers, settlement provisions that prohibit filing charges with the EEOC or providing information in EEOC and other legal proceedings, and the failure to retain records as required under the EEOC regulations.
  • Addressing "emerging employment issues" including a variety of issues under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, and those involving pregnancy leave.? Another emerging issue in the EEOC's crosshairs include coverage for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals under the anti-discrimination laws.? Most recently, the Agency has taken the position that discrimination based upon an individual because he or she is transgender is discrimination because of sex.? Macy v. Department of Justice, EEOC Appeal No. 0120120821 (April 20, 2012).
  • Continued targeting of harassment, including a renewed focus on national education and outreach for both employees and employers.

As the EEOC notes in its Plan, this targeted approach on clearly-identified issues and strategies "shifts the enforcement paradigm from complaint-driven to priority-driven."?

Employers should take note of the target areas, which highlight the areas on which the Agency will be focusing in the coming years ? and areas on which employers should be focusing now.? Taking time to review company policies, procedures and training in these target areas now may help avoid costly and time-consuming claims in the future.

Cartilage made easy with novel hybrid printer

ScienceDaily (Nov. 22, 2012) ? The printing of three-dimensional tissue has taken a major step forward with the creation of a novel hybrid printer that simplifies the process of creating implantable cartilage.

The printer has been presented Nov. 22, in IOP Publishing's journal Biofabrication, and was used to create cartilage constructs that could eventually be implanted into injured patients to help re-grow cartilage in specific areas, such as the joints.

The printer is a combination of two low-cost fabrication techniques: a traditional ink jet printer and an electrospinning machine. Combining these systems allowed the scientists to build a structure made from natural and synthetic materials. Synthetic materials ensure the strength of the construct and natural gel materials provide an environment that promotes cell growth.

In this study, the hybrid system produced cartilage constructs with increased mechanical stability compared to those created by an ink jet printer using gel material alone. The constructs were also shown to maintain their functional characteristics in the laboratory and a real-life system.

The key to this was the use of the electrospinning machine, which uses an electrical current to generate very fine fibres from a polymer solution. Electrospinning allows the composition of polymers to be easily controlled and therefore produces porous structures that encourage cells to integrate into surrounding tissue.

"This is a proof of concept study and illustrates that a combination of materials and fabrication methods generates durable implantable constructs," said James Yoo, M.D., Ph.D., Professor at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and an author on the study. "Other methods of fabrication, such as robotic systems, are currently being developed to further improve the production of implantable tissue constructs."

In this study, flexible mats of electrospun synthetic polymer were combined, layer-by-layer, with a solution of cartilage cells from a rabbit ear that were deposited using the traditional ink jet printer. The constructs were square with a 10cm diagonal and a 0.4mm thickness.

The researchers tested their strength by loading them with variable weights and, after one week, tested to see if the cartilage cells were still alive.

The constructs were also inserted into mice for two, four and eight weeks to see how they performed in a real life system. After eight weeks of implantation, the constructs appeared to have developed the structures and properties that are typical of elastic cartilage, demonstrating their potential for insertion into a patient.

The researchers state that in a future scenario, cartilage constructs could be clinically applied by using an MRI scan of a body part, such as the knee, as a blueprint for creating a matching construct. A careful selection of scaffold material for each patient's construct would allow the implant to withstand mechanical forces while encouraging new cartilage to organise and fill the defect.

AHAM's Blog: Holiday Cooking Safety Tips

200357452-001_5
The holidays are fast approaching and many of us will be cooking dinner for family and friends. With all of the stress that comes with preparing large meals, even the most experienced cook can become distracted and within a blink of an eye a fire can spark. That?s what happened recently in Indianapolis when a 32-year-old man left his stove unattended.

To ensure your holiday dinner is successful and safe, follow these simple and important tips:

  • Stay in the kitchen while food is cooking. ?Most fires in the kitchen occur because food is left unattended while cooking. If you must leave the kitchen briefly, carry an oven mitt with you as a reminder that something is cooking.
  • Do not try to hold your child in one arm while cooking with the other. Holding a child while cooking is an invitation for a burn. Keep the cooking area clear of clutter and keep your child out of the kitchen while you?re cooking.
  • Keep your range top free of clutter. Don?t overload a range top with too many pots and pans. Trying to cook all dishes at once could cause grease to accidentally spill onto a range top and cause a fire. Only cook with as many pots and pans as there are burners.? Also, never use the oven cavity for storage.

For more cooking safety tips, download AHAM?s Recipe for Safer Cooking brochure or order several to distribute within your community by clicking here or sending an email to info@aham.org. There is no charge for the brochures, but AHAM does charge a nominal shipping fee if you order more than 250 brochures. AHAM also has brochures on other safety topics, including portable heater safety, clothes dryer safety, and range tipping.

Even Capuchin monkeys recognize unequal pay

By Dana Macario, TODAY contributor

You do your job, you get paid. Life is good, right?

Unless you're a monkey -- and you see your buddy is getting a better reward than you for doing the exact same task.?

Frans de Waal, a primatologist and Emory University professor,?conducted an experiment on Capuchin monkeys about 10 years ago, which he dubbed the ?Fairness Study.? During the study, two monkeys were each asked to perform a task for a reward. If you?re a monkey, a chunk of cucumber is an acceptable reward, but you know you?re really keeping up with the Joneses when you get rewarded with grapes.

In the viral video, uploaded to YouTube in May, the first time a monkey completes the required task (which involved handing a lab worker a small rock), he is paid with a small chunk of cucumber. But then the monkey discovers his buddy is rewarded with a grape -- valuable currency in the monkey world -- for doing the exact same job. Well, that wasn?t going to fly. What was going to fly were chunks of cucumber as the first monkey, now green with envy, pounds the table in protest and rattles the walls of his cage.

"So, this is basically the Wall Street protest that you see here," says de Waal, referring to the Occupy Wall Street movement.

De Waal as his colleague, Sarah Brosnan, published their findings in the journal Nature in 2003. The video from May has gone viral, with more than 1.2 million views.?

Joy Jernigan contributed to this report. Dana Macario is a Seattle-area writer who, like the Capuchin monkeys, has been known to have a case of the wants now and then.

Opera Mini for BlackBerry and feature phones catches up with download manager update

Opera Mini for BlackBerry and feature phones catches up with download manager update

A mere six months since its last update to feature phones and Blackberrys, Opera Mini has refreshed itself again, this time offering up an improved download experience, both in regards to speed and file management. The new web browser is available to download now, with users able to pause and resume their downloads, customize exactly where files are saved and -- would you believe it -- download multiple files at the same time. But in all seriousness, it's hard to complain as Opera continues to roll out additional functionality for its data-savvy browser even on humbler hardware. Those looking for a quick install should point their phone's browser to m.opera.com.
